High Tech High – San Marcos & Chula Vista
High Tech High is a network of public charter schools that has a large focus on technical learning while fostering a collaborative learning environment. The Chula Vista campus consisted of two phases: a high school and K-8 facility. The San Marcos campus has completed a high school, middle school, and an elementary school all under separate phasing.
Working closely with the project architect and school administrators, the overall landscape designs at each campus strive to reinforce HTH’s innovative educational approach to developing students’ academic, workplace, and citizenship skills. Elements include classroom break-out spaces to accommodate student projects, seating areas geared towards varying sizes of groups, and shaded retreats of both natural and man-made construction. Water-wise planting, advanced irrigation systems, and various water quality treatment devices were also employed to further HTH’s goal of sustainable development with the Chula Vista K-8 facility even earning a LEED Platinum rating.
