Comm22

The ‘Comm22’ project – centered around Commercial Avenue and 22nd Street in San Diego – is a vibrant mixed-use project that incorporates retail frontage, affordable housing, seniors housing, and a daycare facility. The project has a heavy focus on pedestrian circulation, public transit, and public art.

A section of Irving Avenue was closed off where it met Commercial, allowing the creation of an outdoor plaza at the back of the Family building. A large ‘art wall’ decorates the space while recalling the nearby mural richness of Chicano Park. Art is also incorporated into an otherwise utilitarian exhaust shaft from the parking garage below. Both the Family and Seniors buildings utilize landscaped courtyards for resident enjoyment.
